Overall, the stories that leave the biggest mark on me are those of small companies that are already involved in R&D activities, but are not fully aware of their value and potential. I specifically remember a company that dedicated significant resources to internal research and development projects, but due to a lack of more specialised guidance, did not acknowledge the activities developed as R&D activities, nor did it know the benefits it could obtain through research and development incentives. This was a very rewarding job for me, because, through my involvement in the preparation of SIFIDE applications, where we managed to highlight the R&D activities developed by the company and its potential to leverage new advances and developments - not only internally, but in the sector globally - we managed to ensure the company started obtaining tax incentives, which allowed it to reinvest in new projects and more resources.
It is also very good to realise that we contribute to these types of companies gaining a clearer understanding of the value of the work they develop, as well as the opportunities they can seize to maximise their growth potential and competitiveness in the market in which they operate.
What are you most passionate about in your work?
What motivates me most in my work is having the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of companies and the many people who work in them, by creating possibilities to help them obtain incentives that boost their commitment to innovation and, consequently, their growth. On the other hand, I find the complexity and challenges involved in the actual preparation of applications motivating, insofar as each project is unique and requires different approaches fully adapted to the reality of the company, making it necessary to highlight all the key points that allow maximising the chances of the application's success.
In this sense, I find the whole process inherent to the preparation of applications very stimulating, namely at the level of the research that is always necessary, but also of the development of the texts themselves. Dealing with companies in totally distinct areas and sectors enables me to constantly acquire new knowledge, as well as explore various topics at the forefront of innovation, which not only motivates me, but I feel enhances my ability to solve challenges that are more complex.
