Although it is not directly related to the duties I currently perform in the Corporate Finance area, I would like to highlight a LAQO application I submitted in 2022.
Several factors made this project very interesting, such as its location in the Douro region, the focus on sustainability (a very distinctive construction method), and the unusual business model. Now, it was precisely the issue of the unusual business model that ended up raising doubts from Turismo de Portugal. After requests for clarification, phone calls (including whilst I was on holiday), and several email exchanges with the TdP, we managed to secure financing approval for a project that will be truly interesting for the region where it is located.
Now it is just a matter of waiting for it to be completed so I can experience it firsthand.
What are you most passionate about in your work?
From my point of view, nothing makes daily work more exciting than being constantly challenged.
Working in consultancy, specifically in Corporate Finance, implies being frequently challenged to model and project the activity of companies from the most diverse sectors. This is an interesting process in the sense that the companies' different business models require almost a complete "reset" of previous modelling.
Not only is the issue of modelling challenging, but also the understanding of the production process and the market in which the companies operate. In this regard, I consider the opportunity to contact and learn from some of the leading directors of SMEs in Portugal to be fantastic.
